History Just for Kids is a place to share ideas for helping children understand that history is about real people in real places and it not only happened in the past, it's also happening right now. If you have a site you love or an idea you'd like to share, let me know and I'll include it.

One-Room Schools

1890s Milo Warner. One room school house
simonhoyt.com

The One-Room Schoolhouse Center website was created in 1998 as a way to provide an online resource for those interested in learning more about early education in the United States. The history and reminiscences from those who taught and attended one-room schoolhouses are prevalent throughout the site.

One-room schoolhouses are symbolic with our country's earnest commitment to education. These humble places of learning continue to serve in a variety of ways. Some are now historic museums, private residences, living history programs or are still in operation as bonfide schools.

Be sure to check out the America's One-Rooms web page to see if your schoolhouse is included with your state 's list.

Sincerely,
The Schoolmarm
